Child of Light:

Game-Of-The-Year-2014-06

Child of Light is a magical RPG adventure presented as a whimsical fairy tale, but it’s not about Prince Charming, frogs, or happily ever after. The Black Queen has stolen the Sun, the Moon and the Stars. You play as Aurora, a young princess with a pure heart whose soul is brought to the kingdom of Lemuria. Embark on a quest to recapture the three sources of light, defeat the Black Queen and restore the kingdom of Lemuria. All this gets wrapped around basic RPG mechanics, but it’s simple, elegant, and a joy to play.

Infamous: Second Son

Game-Of-The-Year-2014-07

Set seven years after the ending of InFAMOUS 2, players control Deslin Rowe, a 24 year-old slacker graffiti artist in Seattle. After an encounter with a “Conduit,” or someone with supernatural powers, Deslin becomes one himself, and begins to use his powers to fight the Department of Unified Protection, a government organization bent on destroying all Conduits. Cruising through the streets of Seattle is extremely fun, and battling enemy DUP soldiers never gets old. It’s disappointing that there’s not much to do outside of completing the main story missions, and you’ll definitely see the credits roll sooner than you’d want, but the time you do spend putting down enemies with blasts of smoke and navigating the world is wonderful.
