The multiplayer gameplay of Dark Souls 3 is quite different from other online games. You can play offline but if you are connected to internet you are always online. Also while playing online you can leave messages for other fellow players on the ground. If you are playing offline, you will also see some messages left by the developers to help you out.

If you are online and have Strength of Fire then you can join other co- operatively. You can summon them to help you. You cannot see other summon signs if you do not have your Ember intact. Even NPC white summon signs while offline.
Offline:
If you don’t line to play online, then you need to go into network settings and select the play offline launch setting. But in offline mode, you can’t take help from others and you won’t get invaded. But if you are real fun lover than this offline mode is not for you. Because the online features are really interesting.
Online:
After joining online mode, you will see many messages on the ground. These messages are from other players. You can get tips from those messages about dangers ahead, treasure, and so forth. After seeing a message on the ground, look around carefully. You might find interesting things or avoid trouble that would otherwise have come your way without warning.
Bloodstains
While playing online mode, you can see other players Bloodstains. This is a really helpful feature because it shows you that an area is dangerous. You can reveal a ghost of that player by interacting a Bloodstain which will last for 10 seconds. In this way you can come to know that what is going on in that area.
Helping Others:
You can summon other players by using White Sign Soapstone. You can help them defeat bosses that are giving them hard time. And in return, you gain the strength of fire just as if you beat the boss normally or used an Ember. This the good way to keep your strength full. Keep practicing your techniques to help others. But while helping others you still run the risk of being attack by invaders or you might lose the boss.
You are considered a Phantom when you are in other person’s world. Red Phantom invaders come to harm the host of the world, while White, Blue, and Gold Phantoms are there to help.
Stay away from boss areas while waiting to be summoned. Going into one of them causes your summon sign to disappear from other worlds. Killing a boss immediately sends you home, but fighting regular monsters does not.
For the best chance of being summoned, leave your sign near critical areas, boss rooms, and well-traveled portions of each region. If you want to be summoned by someone on your friends list, then choose an obscure location instead. This will lower the chance that a random player summon you before your friend finds the symbol.
Summon Other Players:
If you are having a tough time to kill a boss or simply want to play with other fellow players, look for the symbols on the ground. You don’t need Strength of Fire to place your symbol but need it when summoning others. As such, you must have an Ember or already be filled with the Strength of Fire to even see the symbols.
These embers can be found or can be purchased by some merchants. You can gain the strength by helping others or killing the host during the invasion. After getting the strength of fire find the best chance of summoning symbol near the boss. Your Phantom allies can stay and help you fight regular monsters, invaders, and bosses. Once a boss is defeated, your friends are returned to their worlds and rewarded for their efforts.

What is Invasions?
Invasions are launched by anyone who has a Red Sign Soapstone, A Red Eye Orb, or a Cracked Red Eye Orb. Red Eye Orbs are permanent invasion items that are used to invade targets who have the Strength of Fire. The invader tries to kill the host and gain the strength of fire if he succeed. Red Sign Soapstones are similar in intent, but they place an invasion sign in target worlds until someone accepts this invitation.
Red Eye Orb
- The NPC Leonhard gives you this key eventually. Take a lift down, and fight a Darkwraith there to receive the Red Eye Orb. You can now invade others at will.
Red Sign Soapstone
- Travel to the Cathedral of the Deep. Up high inside the cathedral, you cross bridges that lead to the chamber of Rosaria. Slay a Man-grub just outside of her room to get the Red Sign Soapstone.
If you have low strength of fire, invasions don’t occur.
Soul Value of Victims in PvP
- The number of Souls you receive from a kill is 1{ad0b53be2d5c5d18a99e20ff09d5b2ab365deb4c843e9bf9a16eb8b27c6b832d} to 5{ad0b53be2d5c5d18a99e20ff09d5b2ab365deb4c843e9bf9a16eb8b27c6b832d} of the amount of Souls it would take for that player to gain their most recent level. Thus, killing a level 50 player character would take the value of going from level 49 to level 50, and multiply it by somewhere from .01 to .05.
