Fallout 4 – All Perks Detail and How to Unlock

In Fallout 4, you can have a number of perks and each one of them is tied to a distinctive S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attribute. As you level up in the game, you receive a Perk Point, that you can spend in or to unlock new Perks, or you can spent it to increase the rank of an already-purchased perk. Also Perk Points can be spent on raising any attribute so you can unlock another level of perks.

Each Perk has 5 ranks, you can unlock next rank of any perk with these perk points. First rank in any Perk only costs 1 point, while further ranks often require a higher level to obtain. However there is no level requirement for adding points to any of your S.P.E.C.I.A.L Attributes, allowing you to increase the amount of Perks you will have access to.

Strength Perks

Level 01: Iron Fist

Rank 1 – Requirements: STR 1

  • Punching attacks do 20 percent more damage to your opponent.

Rank 3 – Requirements: Level 9, STR 1

  • Punching attacks now do 40 percent more damage and can disarm your opponent.

Rank 3 – Requirements: Level 18, STR 1

  • Punching attacks now do 60 percent more damage. Unarmed Power Attacks have a chance to cripple one of your opponent’s limbs.

Rank 4 – Requirements: Level 31, STR 1

  • Punching attacks now do 80 percent more damage. Unarmed Power Attacks have an increased chance to cripple one of your opponent’s limbs.

Rank 5 – Requirements: Level 46, STR 1

  • Punching attacks now do double damage. Criticals in V.A.T.S. will paralyze your opponent.

Level 02: Big Leagues

Rank 1 – Requirements: STR 2

  • Does 20 percent more melee weapon damage

Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 7, STR 2

  • You now do 40 percent more melee weapon damage and gain a chance to disarm your opponent.

Rank 3 – Requirements: Level 15, STR 2

  • You now do 60 percent more melee weapon damage and gain an increased chance to disarm your opponent.

Rank 4 – Requirements: Level 27, STR 2

  • You now do 80 percent more melee weapon damage and hit all targets in front of you.

Rank 5 – Requirements: Level 42, STR 2

  • You now do double damage with a melee weapon and gain a chance to cripple your opponent, or grand slam their head clean off!

Level 03: Armorer

Rank 1 – Requirements: STR 3

  • You gain access to base level and Rank 1 armor mods

Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 13, STR 3

  • You gain access to Rank 2 armor mods

Rank 3 – Requirements: Level 25, STR 3

  • You gain access to Rank 3 armor mods

Rank 4 – Requirements: Level 39, STR 3

  • You gain access to Rank 4 armor mods

Level 04: Blacksmith

Rank 1 – Requirements: STR 4

  • You gain access to base level and Rank 1 melee weapon mods

Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 16, STR 4

  • You gain access to Rank 2 melee weapon mods

Rank 3 – Requirements: Level 29, STR 4

  • You gain access to Rank 3 melee weapon mods

Level 05: Heavy Gunner

Rank 1 – Requirements: STR 5

  • Heavy guns do 20 percent more damage.

Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 11, STR 5

  • Heavy guns now do 40 percent more damage and have improved hip-fire accuracy.

Rank 3 – Requirements: Level 21, STR 5

  • Heavy guns now do 60 percent more damage. Hip-fire accuracy is increased even more.

Rank 4 – Requirements: Level 35, STR 5

  • Heavy guns now do 80 percent more damage and have a chance to stagger your opponent.

Rank 5 – Requirements: Level 47, STR 5

  • Heavy guns now do double damage.

Level 06: Strong Back

Rank 1 – Requirements: STR 6

  • Gain +25 to carry weight.

Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 10, STR 6

  • You now have +50 to carry weight.

Rank 3 – Requirements: Level 20, STR 6

  • When overburdened, you can use Action Points to run.

Rank 4 – Requirements: Level 30, STR 6

  • When overburdened, you can Fast-Travel.

Level 07: Steady Aim

Rank 1 – Requirements: STR 7

  • Hip-fire accuracy is improved when firing any gun.

Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 28, STR 7

  • Hip-fire accuracy is improved even more when firing any gun.

Level 08: Basher

Rank 1 – Requirements: STR 8

  • Gun bashing does 25 percent more damage.

Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 5, STR 8

  • Gun bashing now does 50 percent more damage and possibly cripples your opponent.

Rank 3 – Requirements: Level 14, STR 8

  • Gun bashing now does 75 percent more damage and has an increased chance to cripple your opponent.

Rank 4 – Requirements: Level 26, STR 8

  • Gun bashing does double damage and has an increased chance to cripple your opponent. It may also inflict a critical hit.

Level 09: Rooted

Rank 1 – Requirements: STR 9

  • While standing still, you gain +25 Damage Resistance and your melee and unarmed attacks deal 25 percent more damage.

Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 22, STR 9

  • While standing still, you now gain +50 Damage Resistance and your melee and unarmed attacks deal 50 percent more damage.

Rank 3 – Requirements: Level 43, STR 9

  • While standing still, you may automatically disarm enemies that use melee weapons against you.

Level 10: Pain Train

Rank 1 – Requirements: STR 10

  • While wearing Power Armor, sprinting into enemies hurts and staggers them

Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 24, STR 10

  • Sprinting into enemies while wearing Power Armor now causes severe damage and a more powerful stagger

Rank 3 – Requirements: Level 50, STR 10

  • Sprinting into enemies while wearing Power Armor now causes massive damage and knocks them down


Perception Perks:
Level 01: Pickpocket

Rank 1 – Requirements: PER 1

  • Picking pockets is 25 percent easier.

Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 6, PER 1

  • Picking pockets is now 50 percent easier. You can place a live grenade in a person’s inventory.

Rank 3 – Requirements: Level 17, PER 1

  • Picking pockets is now 75 percent easier, and you can steal equipped weapons

Rank 4 – Requirements: Level 30, PER 1

  • Picking pockets is now twice as easy, and you can steal equipped items.

Level 02: Rifleman

Rank 1 – Requirements: PER 2

  • Attacks with non-automatic rifles do 20 percent more damage.

Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 9, PER 2

  • Attacks with non-automatic rifles now do 40 percent more damage and ignore 15 percent of a target’s armor.

Rank 3 – Requirements: Level 18, PER 2

  • Attacks with non-automatic rifles now do 60 percent more damage and ignore 20 percent of a target’s armor.

Rank 4 – Requirements: Level 31, PER 2

  • Attacks with non-automatic rifles now do 80 percent more damage and ignore 25 percent of a target’s armor. They also have a slight chance of crippling a limb.

Rank 5 – Requirements: Level 46, PER 2

  • Attacks with non-automatic rifles now do double damage and ignore 30 percent of a target’s armor. They also have a slightly higher chance of crippling a limb.

Level 03: Awareness

Rank 1 – Requirements: PER 3

  • To defeat your enemies, know their weaknesses! You can view a target’s specific Damage Resistances in V.A.T.S.

Level 04: Locksmith

Rank 1 – Requirements: PER 4

  • You can pick Advanced locks.

Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 7, PER 4

  • You can pick Expert locks.

Rank 3 – Requirements: Level 18, PER 4

  • You can pick Master locks.

Rank 4 – Requirements: Level 41, PER 4

  • Your bobby pins never break during lock picking

Level 05: Demolition Expert

Rank 1 – Requirements: PER 5

  • Your explosives do 25 percent more damage, and you can craft explosives at any chemistry station.

Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 10, PER 5

  • Your explosives now do 50 percent more damage, and grenades gain a throwing arc.

Rank 3 – Requirements: Level 22, PER 5

  • Your explosives now do 75 percent more damage and affect a larger area.

Rank 4 – Requirements: Level 34, PER 5

  • Your explosives now do double damage. Mines and grenades shot in V.A.T.S. explode for double damage, too.

Level 06: Night Person

Rank 1 – Requirements: PER 6

  • Gain +2 to Intelligence and Perception between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 25, PER 6

  • You now have +3 to Intelligence and Perception between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. and night vision when sneaking.

Level 07: Refractor

Rank 1 – Requirements: PER 7

  • Instantly gain +10 Energy Resistance

Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 11, PER 7

  • You now have +20 Energy Resistance

Rank 3 – Requirements: Level 21, PER 7

  • You now have +30 Energy Resistance

Rank 4 – Requirements: Level 35, PER 7

  • You now have +40 Energy Resistance

Rank 5 – Requirements: Level 42, PER 7

  • You now have +50 Energy Resistance

Level 08: Sniper

Rank 1 – Requirements: PER 8

  • You have improved control and can hold your breath longer when aiming with scopes. This reduces wobble.

Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 13, PER 8

  • Non-automatic, scoped rifles have a chance of knocking down your target.

Rank 3 – Requirements: Level 26, PER 8

  • Non-automatic, scoped rifles gain +25 percent accuracy to head shots in V.A.T.S.

Level 09: Penetrator

Rank 1 – Requirements: PER 9

  • In V.A.T.S. you can target an enemy’s body parts that are blocked by cover, with a decrease in accuracy.

Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 28, PER 9

  • In V.A.T.S. when you target an enemy’s body parts that are blocked by cover, there is no decrease in accuracy.

Level 10: Concentrated Fire

Rank 1 – Requirements: PER 10

  • In V.A.T.S. every attack on the same body part gains +10 percent accuracy


Rank 2 – Requirements: Level 26, PER 10

  • In V.A.T.S. every attack on the same body part gains +15 percent accuracy

Rank 3 – Requirements: Level 50, PER 10

  • In V.A.T.S. every attack on the same body part gains +20 percent accuracy and does 20 percent more damage
