What Should You Do First?

Mouse and Keyboard Isn’t Working on Main Menu
If your mouse and Keyboard is not working on main menu, unplug the controller that you have will fix this issue.
Also Verify Integrity of Game Cache
- Completely exit Steam
- Right-click on the shortcut which you use to launch Steam
- Select “Run as Administrator”
Launch Steam again and continue to the section of this article titled “Verify integrity of game cache”
Mouse Acceleration Issue
To fix this:
- Find the fallout 4 config file, that can be located under – C:Users>username>Documents>My Games>Fallout4
- Open it with notepad and change iPresentInterval=1 to iPresentInterval=0
- Save and close
- No open “Fallout4prefs” and change bForceIgnoreSmoothness=0 to bForceIgnoreSmoothness=1
- Save and close, run the game, you will have no issue with mouse.
Game crashes to desktop caused by a faulty XAudio2_7.dll module
Follow the instructions below to download the beta patch from Steam.
- Log into Steam
- Right-click on Fallout 4 in your Library
- Select “Settings”, then “Betas”
- A drop-down menu will appear; select the “beta – 1.1.30 Beta Update”
- Click “OK”, then wait a few minutes for Fallout 4 to update
- When the beta patching has finished, Fallout 4 should appear as “Fallout 4 [beta]” in your Library
Improve FPS and Performance: (Nvidia User)
Disable the “NVIDIA Streamer Service” for less chance of crashing and game performance will be good.
To turn this unnecessary service completely off and regain your lost framerate, as well as prevent any associated crashes, click on the Start Button on the Windows taskbar, search for “Services” and then right-click its icon and select “Run as administrator”.
Using this screenshot as a visual guide, scroll down through the “Services (Local)” list, find and right-click on “NVIDIA Streamer Service”, then select “Properties”. First click on “Stop” to turn the service off, confirm that you also want to stop “NVIDIA Streamer Network Service” and then select “Startup type: Disabled” from the drop-down menu for both of these services.
Game Crash at Start:
You need to update your graphic card driver, it will fix this issue, also download the beta patch from Steam.

Failed to start game (Unknown Error)
Run the game as Administrator
- Right click the game in your Steam Library.
- Go to Properties then the Local Files tab.
- Click Browse Local Files.
- Locate the game executable (the application).
- Right click it and go to Properties.
- Click the Compatibility tab.
- Check the Run this program as an administrator box.
- Click Apply.
- Once you have done this, restart Steam and try launching the game again.
Run Steam as Administrator
- Navigate to your Steam install folder (Default: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam).
- Right click the Steam executable.
- Follow the above steps to set it to Run as Administrator.
- Restart Steam.
Verify the Integrity of the GameCache
- Now that Steam is running as Admin, it should have no permission issues.
- Right click the game in your Steam Library.
- Go to Properties then the Local Files tab.
- Click Verify Integrity of Game Cache.
- Wait for it to complete.
- That will remove any potentially corrupt or broken files and allow the game to run!
Check your Antivirus settings
Some antivirus programs are known to block programs from running.
